An Alliston resident is turning heads across North America as they compete in the Style Icon contest.
It’s a fashion-focused competition helping raise awareness and funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
Hosted by Colossal, the contest features participants from the U.S. and parts of Canada, with weekly eliminations narrowing down the field. As of now, Debby Brynildsen sits in fourth place in her group, proudly representing both Alliston and Canada on the international stage.
It’s a subject that hits close to home for Brynildsen. She says the reason why she entered was to honour her brother, who died about ten years ago from AIDS. Now that she’s this far, her goal has become to raise awareness more than anything else.
She adds that being part of something that supports such an important cause means so much to her, and that she’s happy to share her journey with the community.
The grand prize includes a trip to Milan, Italy, for Fashion Week hosted by Versace, along with a $20,000 cash prize. Voting is free and open once every 24 hours, with the next round of eliminations happening at 10:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, November 13th.
