Barrie Police have charged two people and seized drugs, cash, and a prohibited weapon following a traffic stop that began as a suspicious person call last week.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Hart Drive around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 15th. While approaching the vehicle, an officer observed a half-empty, unsealed bottle of whisky in the rear seat that was readily accessible to the driver. Further investigation led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected cocaine.
A search of the vehicle uncovered just under $50,000 in Canadian currency, additional suspected cocaine, and a spring-assisted prohibited knife. As a result, a 36-year-old man from Mississauga and a 33-year-old woman from Muskoka Lakes were charged with:
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance – cocaine
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
The man is also facing additional charges:
- Driving a conveyance with liquor in open baggage
- Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order
- Possession of an identity document
