Residents of Creemore can expect to see members of the Canadian Armed Forces in the community next week as part of a scheduled training exercise.
According to National Defence, approximately 50 soldiers and staff from the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School will conduct an exercise in the Town of Creemore between Wednesday, February 25th and Friday, February 27th.
Participants are enrolled in the Rank Qualification Land Equipment Engineering Technologist Warrant Officer training course. During the exercise, soldiers will be walking through local streets using maps and compasses as they familiarize themselves with conducting military operations in built-up areas.
The training reflects lessons learned from recent overseas deployments, which have shown that modern conflicts are more likely to occur in urban environments rather than rural settings. Organizers note that interaction with members of the public is encouraged, as it adds a realistic element to the training experience.
Officials emphasize that the soldiers will not be armed, and no live, blank or pyrotechnic ammunition will be used during the exercise.
The course is designed to enhance participants’ understanding of tactics and administration as they relate to Maintenance Units within the Canadian Armed Forces.
