Premier Doug Ford was asked by reporters about the resignation of his most senior cabinet minister.
Questions have swirled since last Friday (nov 2) when the Premier’s office issued a late-night statement announcing Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson’s departure from both his post as Economic Development Minister and the party caucus.
Ford’s office has said Wilson left to seek treatment for addiction issues, but media reports have indicated his departure was triggered by an allegation of inappropriate sexual behaviour.
In Trenton this morning, Ford says he was not forthcoming with the accusations against Wilson to protect the accuser.
Ford says the accusers of both Wilson and Ford aide Andrew Kimber, didn’t want the story to go public but Ford said they started an investigation immediately.
Ford also told reporters Wilson’s “…addiction issue is a real issue”.
