
The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested and charged one individual in connection with a suspicious death investigation, which has been ruled a homicide, in the Town of New Tecumseth.
On January 21, 2024, at approximately 8:40 p.m., police discovered the body of 24-year-old William SCHERNHAMMER from the Town of New Tecumseth.
William was reported missing on January 12, 2024.
On January 21, 2024, a 25 years old from the Township of Adjala-Tosorontio, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with the following offences:
· Obstruct Peace Officer, section 129(a)
· Indignity to Dead Body, section 182(b)
On February 1, 2024, the accused was further charged with First Degree Murder, contrary to section 235(1) of the CC, and remanded into custody.
The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and Central Region Support Team, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
