The County of Simcoe is reminding residents about the importance of being prepared for a wide range of potential emergency situations by observing Emergency Preparedness Week (may5-11).
Residents are encouraged to make emergency plans and have the tools needed to withstand an emergency situation for up to 72 hours, should something unexpected occur.
Grant Durfey is the Manager of Emergency Management for the County, he says in this area, we need to always be aware of the weather.

Durfey says an emergency kit should contain enough food, water, medication and cash to sustain your family for at least 3 days.
A second kit should be kept in your vehicle, with many of the same items but also seasonal emergency items such as a blanket and shovel.
