Intimate partner violence (IPV) refers to any behavior within an intimate relationship that causes physical, psychological, or sexual harm to those in the relationship.
This can include acts of physical aggression, sexual coercion, psychological abuse, and controlling behaviors.
IPV affects individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
The impacts of IPV can lead to long-term physical and mental health issues, and it can perpetuate cycles of violence and trauma.
There are community resources available to assist victims of IPV such as Women’s shelters and your local police.
Women’s shelters provide much more then just a safe place to live.
Most women’s shelters provide 24 hour support, counselling and education.
In addition the support staff can assist victims with legal support.
These programs help to break down barriers within our community with a goal of ensuring no one suffers alone and in silence.
