Want to make mom happy this weekend? Take her fishing!
Ontario is inviting Canadian residents to fish for free on Saturday, May 10th and Sunday, May 11th, in honour of the spring season and Mother’s Day.
The initiative, part of the province’s annual free fishing program, allows residents to enjoy recreational fishing without needing a licence.
“Fishing is a timeless Ontario tradition that brings people together,” says Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources. “This Mother’s Day weekend, why not get outside and enjoy the water with friends and family?”
Free fishing weekends are a great opportunity for beginners to try the sport and for families to create lasting memories while supporting Ontario’s $1.75 billion recreational fishing industry. While licences aren’t required during the free weekend, all existing rules — including size limits and conservation regulations — still apply.
This weekend marks the second of four free fishing events this year. The next chances to fish without a licence will be on Father’s Day weekend (June 14th – June 15th) and during Family Fishing Week (June 28th – July 6th).
