South Simcoe Police have laid 276 charges related to operating a motor vehicle without valid insurance in the first half of the year.
Officers also issued three additional charges for providing false proof of insurance.
These offences, laid under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, each carry a minimum fine of $5,000 upon conviction. Police emphasize that driving without insurance not only leads to serious legal and financial consequences but also puts other road users – including pedestrians and cyclists – at risk.
“Having valid insurance is not optional, it’s a legal requirement and critical to keeping our roads safe,” the South Simcoe Police Service stated in a release.
The department says it will continue targeting uninsured drivers through the remainder of the year as part of its ongoing commitment to road safety and driver accountability.
Motorists are reminded to carry valid, comprehensive automobile insurance at all times to help protect themselves and others on the road.
