Colonel Wesley Cunningham took command of 16 Wing from Colonel Gabriel Doré in a ceremony held July 24th, 2025 at Canadian Forces Base Borden, Ontario. Brigadier-General Daniel Coutts, Commander of 2 Canadian Air Division, presided over the ceremony.
16 Wing Headquarters is located at Canadian Forces Base Borden and is under the operational command of 2 Canadian Air Division.
16 Wing is responsible for delivering ab initio technical and engineering training as well as professional development to officers and non-commissioned members of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and is comprised of three schools:
- The Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering operating from Canadian Forces Base Borden;
- The Royal Canadian Air Force Academy operating from Canadian Forces Base Borden as well as Camp Aldershot, Nova Scotia; and
- The Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations, located in Cornwall, Ontario.
Opening as an air training school since 1917, Camp Borden (now known as Canadian Forces Base Borden and home to 16 Wing) has operated continuously as a keystone of instruction for Canada’s Air Force and is considered the birthplace of the RCAF. Building on this tradition of excellence, 16 Wing continues to modernize its training facilities, training aids, and instructional methods and techniques to adapt to new technologies and the contemporary learning styles of the newest RCAF members. This culture of innovation ensures that 16 Wing remains agile and delivers leading-edge training that meets the RCAF’s current and future air and space power needs.
