The full-time support staff (FTSS) bargaining unit of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is on strike as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday, September 11th, impacting all 24 publicly funded colleges across Ontario.
At Georgian College, roughly 465 staff are off the job after their contract expired on August 31st. Faculty, librarians and counsellors are not part of this strike, and all Georgian campuses remain open with classes continuing as scheduled.
Students and visitors are advised to leave extra time when traveling to campus, as information picket lines may cause delays at entrances. The College Employers Council (CEC) is bargaining on behalf of Ontario colleges, while OPSEU represents FTSS workers across the province.
Georgian College has launched a dedicated webpage with strike updates and frequently asked questions to help students and the public stay informed.
“[We are] eager to see this labour dispute settled as soon as possible with an agreement that’s fair and affordable for colleges and employees alike,” says Georgian College President and CEO Kevin Weaver.
