The Bradford community came together this week to honour fallen South Simcoe Police officers during the local kick-off of the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run.
The run, which began at the South Simcoe Police South Division on Melbourne Drive, gave officers, families, and residents the chance to remember Constables Alan Kuzmich, Devon Northrup, and Morgan Russell. Participants paused for moments of silence at both Devon Northrup Memorial Park and Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park before continuing through the community.
The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run stretches 460 kilometres from Toronto to Ottawa, culminating at the annual Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service on Parliament Hill this weekend. The event holds special meaning in Bradford, as the late Constable Devon Northrup, a former team captain, was deeply involved with the run and its mission.
This year, members of the original South Simcoe Police running team carried on Northrup’s legacy, ensuring his passion for the event continues to inspire others.
