The South Simcoe Police Service has joined CAMSafe, a new public safety initiative that strengthens collaboration between police and the community through the use of privately owned outdoor security cameras.
The free, voluntary program encourages residents, businesses, municipalities, schools, and community centres in Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil to register their security cameras, such as doorbell cameras or CCTV systems, into a secure police database. This registration does not give police direct access to camera systems or footage, but it lets officers know where cameras are located and who to contact if an incident occurs nearby.
By quickly identifying and reaching out to camera owners, police can access valuable video evidence to assist investigations into thefts, vandalism, and other crimes. This approach helps police solve cases faster, recover stolen property, and prevent further criminal activity – making neighbourhoods safer and residents more secure.
