A late-night traffic stop in Bradford has led to multiple firearm-related charges against two men from Maple.
South Simcoe Police say that on Friday, September 26th, at around 10:00 p.m., an officer conducting proactive traffic enforcement clocked a dark-coloured vehicle travelling 150 km/h in an 80 zone. When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected a strong odour of cannabis. With assistance from additional officers, a search of the vehicle was conducted under the Cannabis Control Act, leading to the discovery of a Glock 9mm handgun and a loaded magazine inside a satchel.
A 30-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both from Maple, were arrested and are now facing several firearm-related charges, including:
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Police say the driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
Both accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.
