The Ontario government has officially approved funding for a new elementary school in Angus, marking a major investment in local education and community growth.
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) received approval to award the tender for the project, which will create 593 new student spaces once completed.
Supported by a $30.9 million investment, including an additional $2.8 million in funding, the new Angus Elementary School will be located at Greenwood Drive and Decarolis Drive in Essa.
“Through this investment, we’re creating opportunities for students to thrive today and well into the future,” says Simcoe – Grey MPP Brian Saunderson.
Education Minister Paul Calandra said the new facility will offer “an inspiring learning environment” to help students prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. The project is part of the province’s broader plan to address growth and demographic changes, with Ontario committing $23 billion to school construction, renewal, and improvement over the next decade.
Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma noted that the government’s $200-billion infrastructure plan is helping “build better schools, transit, and communities for future generations.” SCDSB Director of Education Dawn Stephens added that the new school will give local students “the opportunity to learn and grow in their community.”
