Barrie Police are investigating a robbery that took place Monday night after a phone sale arranged through social media ended in theft.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15th, along a catwalk near Mapleview Drive East and Prince William Way, where the victim met a buyer to sell a phone. Police say the suspect grabbed the phone, pushed the victim, and ran off towards a nearby secondary school. The victim was not injured.
The suspect is described by police as:
- Black male
- about 16 years old
- wearing a black hoodie with a gold logo, black pants, a black baseball-style hat, and a black medical-style face mask
The stolen phone, valued at $950, has not yet been recovered.
Police are urging residents who use social media platforms for buying or selling items to do so in safe, public, and well-lit locations, ideally during daylight hours and with a second person present. Conducting transactions in isolated areas at night can increase risk and make suspect identification difficult.
Anyone with information or who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact Constable Woodward at mwoodward@barriepolice.ca.
