Barrie police are investigating a quick overnight break-in at a business in the Bayfield Mall that took place earlier this week.
At around 3:14 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21st, five masked suspects dressed in black forced their way inside, taking a safe and a gold-testing machine before fleeing. Investigators say the group used a pry bar to shatter the glass door, then pushed the safe out of the store to a waiting vehicle near the southwest doors of the mall.
Minutes later, surveillance footage captured a dark-coloured SUV, possibly a BMW with chrome rims, speeding through the parking lot toward Coulter Street and southbound on Bayfield Street, possibly continuing onto Highway 400.
The total value of the stolen items has not yet been confirmed as the business owner continues to assess the losses.
Police are asking anyone with dash camera footage or who may have seen the SUV to contact the investigating officer at mmcgill@barriepolice.ca.
