The County of Simcoe celebrated community leadership and inclusivity last Thursday night during its annual Newcomer Recognition Awards, highlighting the contributions of immigrants, organizations, and businesses across the region.
The event, held at Tangle Creek in Essa Township, presented honours in seven categories, with recipients selected through an open nomination process overseen by a committee of community stakeholders.
This year’s award winners are:
- Small Business Owner – Hakka Zone
- Newcomer Inclusive Service Delivery – UPlift Black
- Educator Excellence – Manon Heran
- Immigrant Artist – Inga Filippova-Williams
- Ethno-Cultural Group – Olundara Foundation
- Youth Community Champion – Aditi Sharma
- Immigrant Mentor – Kanika Gupta
County Warden Basil Clarke congratulated the honourees and acknowledged the work of organizers and sponsors, including Honda Manufacturing of Canada, which returned as the event’s gold sponsor. Clarke noted the awards reflect the region’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
