The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) has announced its Trustee Chair and Vice-Chair for the 2025–2026 school year.
Both positions were filled by acclamation during the board meeting on Wednesday, November 19th.
Trustee Susan van Amelsvoort, who represents Wards 1 – 5 in Barrie, has been named Chair, while Trustee Joshua Boutotte, who represents schools across Huntsville, Muskoka Lakes, Lake of Bays, Gravenhurst, Georgian Bay, and Parry Sound, will serve as Vice-Chair.
Van Amelsvoort, first elected in 2022 and Vice-Chair for the past two years, thanked her colleagues and outgoing Chair Maria Hardie for their support. She said the board faces “unprecedented challenges” and emphasized the importance of collaboration, transparency, and supporting students in realizing their “God-given potential.”
Boutotte, also elected in 2022, said he is honoured to step into the role of Vice-Chair and highlighted the board’s ongoing commitment to strong governance and student success.
The SMCDSB says the leadership team will continue to promote innovation, cooperation, and faith-based learning across its schools throughout the 2025 – 2026 academic year.
