The Ontario government is investing $434,721 to support infrastructure improvements at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in New Tecumseth.
The funding, delivered through the Community Infrastructure Renewal Fund (CIRF), is part of a wider $257-million provincial commitment to upgrade critical infrastructure at hospitals and community health-care facilities across Ontario. Officials say the investment will help ensure residents continue to receive care in safe, modern environments.
According to the province, the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) and CIRF programs support urgent upgrades such as roof and window replacements, fire alarms, security systems and emergency generators. This year’s funding saw a 12.3% increase. Local MPP Brian Saunderson said the investment will help Stevenson Memorial maintain high-quality care as it prepares for its next phase of redevelopment.
Stevenson Memorial Hospital, built in 1964, currently manages nearly 35,000 emergency visits annually despite having infrastructure originally designed for 7,000 visits. The hospital is undergoing a major redevelopment that will more than double its size, increase inpatient capacity by 20%, expand the Emergency Department and add new diagnostic and surgical capabilities.
Ontario is planning nearly $60 billion in health-care infrastructure investment over the next decade, including more than 50 major hospital projects and approximately 3,000 new beds. Provincial officials say these improvements are part of a broader effort to expand and modernize health care so people can access services closer to home.
