A 35-year-old Barrie man is facing charges after police say he fled from officers during a suspected impaired driving incident that put pedestrians at risk.
Barrie Police responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in a Wellington Street West plaza shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27th. When an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, police say the driver fled at a high rate of speed, nearly striking pedestrians in the area.
A short time later, the same pickup truck was spotted again. Police attempted another traffic stop, but the vehicle allegedly sped toward the cruiser, forcing the officer to take evasive action to avoid a collision. While fleeing, the truck again narrowly missed pedestrians crossing the street.
Following an investigation, police identified the driver and located the pickup truck the next morning in a parking lot near Ferndale Drive North and Tiffin Street. Officers executed a warrant and arrested the driver without incident.
The accused has been charged with flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation.
