South Simcoe Police are investigating an early-morning home invasion in Innisfil that involved multiple armed suspects and the theft of several vehicles.
On Saturday, February 7th, at roughly 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a reported home invasion in the area of Ferguson Street and Benson Street.
Four masked suspects, armed with firearms, forced their way into the residence, confined the occupants and stole several items, including a vehicle parked in the driveway. The suspects fled in separate vehicles, one of which was the stolen vehicle.
Responding officers later spotted one of the suspect vehicles travelling westbound on Benson Street. The vehicle came to a stop after striking a snowbank, and the lone occupant fled on foot. A police canine unit was deployed and a perimeter was established, but the suspect was not located.
During the response, another suspect allegedly stole a separate vehicle. That vehicle was later recovered by the Ontario Provincial Police near Cobourg after officers conducted a traffic stop.
The vehicle involved in the Benson Street collision was seized at the scene and is being held pending the execution of a search warrant.
Police say the incident appears to be isolated. The occupants of the targeted residence were not physically harmed, and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by the South Simcoe Police Service Crimes Against Persons Unit. Investigators are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage from Saturday between 1:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the areas of Ferguson Street and Benson Street, as well as Hunter Street and Swan Street, to contact Investigative Services at 905-775-3311 ext. 1461 or email investigations@southsimcoepolice.ca.
