Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a Barrie traffic stop led to a man being taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Barrie Police says officers conducted a traffic stop at around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6th on Dunlop Street West between Frances Street North and Eccles Street North after suspecting the driver was impaired.
Police say a 25-year-old woman driving the vehicle was arrested and charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
A 29-year-old male passenger fled the scene but was located a short distance away.
During an interaction with officers, the man was injured and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a result, Dunlop Street West was closed for several hours between Frances Street North and Eccles Street North while the investigation took place.
