An impaired driving charge has been laid following a head-on collision in Barrie that sent two people to hospital.
Barrie Police say officers responded to a serious crash on Fairview Road at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19th. Emergency crews, including Barrie Fire and Emergency Services and Simcoe County paramedics, treated those involved at the scene before taking two individuals from one vehicle to the hospital with injuries.
Investigators say the collision occurred when a southbound vehicle lost control and struck a northbound vehicle. During the investigation, officers located open beer containers in the southbound vehicle, leading to an impaired driving investigation.
A 71-year-old Barrie man has been charged with operation while impaired. A 55-year-old passenger from the same vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the occupants of the second vehicle were assessed at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to remind drivers to make responsible choices behind the wheel.
