Barrie Police have arrested a man believed to be connected to a series of break-ins and thefts in the city’s east end.
Officers were first called to a home on Eugenia Street on Wednesday, March 25th, after a resident received a bank alert about suspicious credit card activity at around 4:00 a.m. The homeowner later discovered a wallet had been stolen from a vehicle inside their garage.
Investigators determined the stolen card was used shortly after at a convenience store on St. Vincent Street. Surveillance footage showed a male suspect inside the store between 4:25 a.m. and 4:35 a.m. making a purchase with the card.
Two days later, officers responding to an unrelated call in the St. Vincent Street area located a man matching the suspect description and arrested him without incident.
A 28-year-old Barrie man now faces multiple charges:
- Break, enter a dwelling house with the intent to commit an indictable offence
- Theft under $5,000
- Fraud under $5,000
- Use of credit card – Section 342(1)(c)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Police believe the accused may be linked to additional thefts in the city’s east end, including the areas of Grove Street, Duckworth Street, St. Vincent Street, and Blake Street. Residents are being asked to review security or dashcam footage from the early morning hours of March 25th to March 27th and report anything suspicious.
Police also remind residents to lock vehicles, secure valuables, and ensure garages and entry points are properly closed to help prevent similar incidents.
