The Town of Innisfil is expanding support for local food initiatives, awarding grants to 18 community-led projects through its 2026 Community Food Projects Grants program.
Funded through the Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group Learning Engagement & Accelerator Fund (L.E.A.F), the program was originally intended to support 10 projects with $1,000 each. However, due to a strong response and high-quality applications, the Town increased funding to support nearly double the number of recipients.
“We are overjoyed at the great community response we had to our Community Food Projects Grants,” says Lynn Dollin, noting the Town chose to allocate additional funds to maximize community impact.
Recipients include local schools such as Goodfellow Public School, Killarney Beach Public School, Nantyr Shores Secondary School, and St. André Bessette Catholic School, along with non-profits like the Innisfil Food Bank, Rotary Club of Innisfil, and Innisfil Lions Club.
Volunteer and community groups, including the Innisfil Indian Association, Innisfil Seed Library, and The Giving Garden Project, are also among those receiving funding.
Projects supported by the grants range from purchasing essential equipment, such as a new refrigerator for the food bank, to running youth food literacy workshops, preparing donations for community fridges, and hosting events that promote cultural connection and food accessibility.
“It’s hard to accept that in a world where food is so abundant, so many people still go without,” says Jacquie Raaphorst of the Help the Community group. “Seeing the Town step forward with a grant focused on food and community means a lot.”
