Students across the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) are earning recognition after strong performances at recent music festivals.
Secondary school choirs, bands, and ensembles from the board have been participating in local and provincial competitions, including the Ontario Band Association’s Provincial Band Festival in February, which brought together more than 10,000 student musicians. Schools including Bradford District High School, Collingwood Collegiate Institute, Georgian Bay District Secondary School, and Nantyr Shores Secondary School earned multiple awards, including Silver and Silver Plus standings, as well as honours for excellence in woodwind and percussion performance and overall festival spirit.
In March, students from multiple SCDSB schools also took part in the Barrie Kiwanis Music Festival, where participants earned a combined total of seven Gold, six Silver Plus, six Silver, and one Bronze award.
Seven SCDSB bands have also qualified for the MusicFest Canada national festival, set to take place from Monday, May 11th to Saturday, May 16th, while several teachers were recognized with Excellence in Band Development awards.
