The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury says there are currently no significant flooding concerns, but staff are continuing to closely monitor water levels following recent weather conditions.
The Town is working in partnership with the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, which is responsible for local watershed flood forecasting and monitoring, to track conditions across the community and respond if needed.
“At this time, there are no significant concerns in Bradford West Gwillimbury,” says Mayor James Leduc. “Our staff are monitoring conditions closely and working with our partners to stay informed. We encourage residents to take simple precautions and stay aware as conditions continue to evolve.”
Drainage Superintendent Frank Jonkman noted that some standing water in agricultural areas is typical for this time of year as snowmelt and rainfall move through drainage systems. He added that precautionary work has already been completed in higher-risk areas to help mitigate potential flooding.
While there are no major impacts at this time, Town officials say they remain prepared to respond if conditions change.
Residents are encouraged to take simple steps to help reduce the risk of localized flooding, including clearing debris from nearby catch basins, checking ditches for blockages, and reporting restricted water flow through the Town’s reporting tools.
Officials are also reminding the public to stay away from shorelines and fast-moving water, and to never drive or walk through flooded areas. If a vehicle begins to take on water, drivers are urged to exit immediately and move to higher ground.
