Georgian College is celebrating student creativity with the return of its annual Design and Visual Arts Scholarship Show, opening this week in Barrie.
The exhibition, hosted at Georgian College’s Campus Gallery, runs from April 24th to May 13th, and features work from top students across seven design-focused programs. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, April 24th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., giving visitors a first look at the diverse range of projects on display.
Each year, the show highlights the creativity, technical skills and innovation students have developed throughout their studies, with work spanning graphic design, interior decorating, digital media and jewellery design. Industry professionals also review submissions, with more than $30,000 in awards available through contributions from industry partners, helping students take the next step into their careers.
“Being part of the scholarship show is an incredible opportunity for students and emerging artists,” says student participant Jade Wishart. “It brings people together to celebrate the hard work and creativity of Georgian College students.”
The exhibition extends beyond the gallery space, with artwork displayed throughout the Helen and Arch Brown Centre for Design and Visual Arts, transforming classrooms and common areas into a showcase of emerging talent.
Organizers say the event not only recognizes student achievement but also offers the community a chance to experience the moment when student work begins to enter the professional world.
The Campus Gallery is located at Georgian College’s Barrie campus at 1 Georgian Drive, and the exhibition is open to the public throughout its run.
