Barrie Police are investigating what officers believe was a targeted shooting in the city’s east end that left a 22-year-old man seriously injured.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Johnson Street and Shanty Bay Road around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19th, following reports of a gunshot. The victim was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he remains in stable condition.
Witnesses told investigators they saw two males running toward Johnson Beach after the shooting. Barrie Police launched an extensive search involving Tactical and K9 units, but the suspects were not located.
Members of the Major Crime Unit continue to investigate and officers are expected to remain in the area canvassing for evidence and information. Police say while the incident is not believed to be random, any form of violence involving firearms is taken seriously.
