
South Simcoe Police have laid charges following a lengthy investigation into the death of a four-month-old infant in Innisfil in November 2024.
Officers responded to a medical call at a home on Algonquin Avenue during the early morning hours of November 8th, 2024, where the infant was found without vital signs. The child was initially taken to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie before being transferred to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.
Investigators say the infant died in hospital two days later from injuries sustained on November 8th. The South Simcoe Police Service Crimes Against Persons Unit then took over the investigation.
On Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, officers executed multiple warrants at a residence in Barrie with assistance from the Emergency Response Unit, Street Crime Unit, K9 Unit and Uniform Patrol.
As a result, a 31-year-old Barrie man has been charged with manslaughter, while a 26-year-old Barrie woman has been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life. Both accused were held in custody for bail hearings.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau has taken over the incident as an infant death.
That investigation is ongoing and is expected to be a lengthy process.
