Barrie Police have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city’s downtown core.
Officers were called to the area of Bayfield Street and Dunlop Street West, known as Five Points, at around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29th after receiving reports of an injured man lying on the ground.
When officers arrived, they discovered the victim had suffered a stab wound. The 36-year-old Barrie man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police say investigators determined the suspect had been interacting with the victim in the area before the incident. As part of the investigation, officers reviewed footage from the city’s downtown CCTV camera system.
Police were able to locate and arrest a 29-year-old unnamed man in the area of Toronto Street and Dunlop Street West.
The accused has been charged with:
- Second-degree murder
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
The investigation remains ongoing.
