The Town of New Tecumseth is advising residents that maintenance work at the Tottenham Wastewater Treatment Plant will begin this month and continue through September.
As part of the project, one of the facility’s biosolids lagoons will be cleaned to remove built-up materials. The Town says the work is routine and is necessary to ensure the wastewater treatment system continues to operate safely and efficiently.
Residents in the area may notice occasional odours while the work is underway.
According to the Town, any odours will be temporary and limited to the period when the maintenance is being carried out. The Town and its contractor say they will take reasonable steps to minimize odour impacts whenever possible.
Officials say the maintenance is an important part of protecting public health and the environment while ensuring the wastewater treatment system continues to function effectively.
