Royal Canadian Legion branches across Ontario, including 12 in Simcoe-Grey, will receive full rebates on liquor sales licence fees under a new provincial program aimed at supporting veterans’ organizations and local communities.
The rebate program took effect in June, and applies retroactively to April 1st. Eligible Legion branches that apply for or renew a liquor sales licence will automatically receive a full rebate of the fee.
“Ontario’s legions have long been at the heart of communities across our province, serving veterans, supporting local charities and bringing people together,” says Attorney General Doug Downey. “That’s why our government is providing liquor sales licence fee rebates that will help legion branches dedicate more resources to the people and causes they serve across Ontario.”
In Simcoe-Grey, the following Legion branches are eligible for the rebate:
- Branch 63 – Collingwood
- Branch 171 – Alliston
- Branch 281 – Beaver Valley
- Branch 329 – Tottenham
- Branch 397 – Creemore
- Branch 421 – Beeton
- Branch 457 – Stayner
- Branch 499 – Angus
- Branch 508 – Everett
- Branch 516 – New Lowell
- Branch 559 – Lisle
- Branch 645 – Wasaga Beach
“Our twelve local legions have long histories of serving veterans and strengthening our communities,” says Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson. “Our government is proud to support legions by reducing costs so they can continue investing in the people, programs and services that matter most to veterans and local families.”
Across Ontario, 391 Royal Canadian Legion branches currently hold liquor sales licences and are eligible for the rebate program.
The province estimates the initiative will reduce costs for nearly 400 Legion branches by almost $250,000 over five years. Rebates amount to $1,055 for a two-year licence and $1,355 for a four-year licence.
Eligible Ontario Legion branches do not need to apply separately for the rebate. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario will automatically issue the rebate within two to four weeks after a licence application or renewal is approved.
