A 21-year-old Barrie man is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading police on a series of dangerous encounters across the city’s south end last week.
It began at around 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7th when an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed through a red light at Anne Street and Essa Road. As the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver accelerated away with the vehicle’s headlights turned off.
A short time later, another officer spotted the same vehicle, which had noticeable damage to its side, near Patterson Road and Ardagh Road. Police say the driver again fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle.
Minutes later, an officer located the vehicle near Essa Road and Veterans Drive. Despite the cruiser activating its emergency lights, the driver allegedly fled for a third time.
During the three attempted traffic stops, officers say the vehicle was driven at excessive speeds, ran multiple red lights, and was seen performing dangerous driving manoeuvres in a residential neighbourhood near Patterson Road.
The incident came to an end at around 11:30 p.m. when officers located the vehicle in the area of Beacon Road and arrested the driver without further incident.
A 21-year-old Barrie man has been charged with:
- Flight from a peace officer (three counts)
- Failure to stop after an accident
