A 38-year-old Barrie woman is facing a public mischief charge after repeatedly calling the police about the same incident, despite being told the matter was under investigation.
Officers responded to the woman’s initial call on Saturday, July 18th at around 3:40 p.m. and advised her that the matter would be investigated.
Later that evening, beginning around 9:30 p.m., the woman repeatedly contacted police over a six-hour period, calling 911 seven times and the non-emergency line 24 times about the same issue. During several of the calls, police say she became verbally abusive toward Communications staff.
Barrie Police remind residents that repeatedly calling 911 or the non-emergency line will not speed up an investigation and can tie up resources needed for genuine emergencies.
Residents are urged to call 911 only when there is an emergency requiring an immediate response. For non-urgent police matters, contact the Barrie Police Service’s non-emergency line at 705-725-7025 and allow officers time to investigate after a report has been made.
