The South Simcoe Police Service is highlighting its ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking following World Day Against Trafficking in Persons this week.
The service says it remains committed to identifying victims, investigating offenders, and working with community organizations and partner agencies to prevent human trafficking and connect survivors with support services.
During June and July, investigators with the South Simcoe Police Service’s Criminal Investigative Services Unit participated in a province-wide human trafficking initiative led by Peel Regional Police alongside 16 other police services and four victim service organizations.
The initiative identified 98 individuals involved in the sex trade and offered them access to support services and community resources. It also resulted in multiple ongoing human trafficking investigations across Ontario.
Police are reminding residents to watch for warning signs of human trafficking, including individuals who appear controlled or fearful, unexplained hotel stays or expensive items, signs of abuse or neglect, and youth who suddenly become withdrawn or frequently absent from home or school.
