A 36-year-old Barrie man is facing several charges after police say a vehicle failed to stop for officers and was later involved in a collision with a light post.
Barrie Police say an officer observed the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and failing to stop for a red light at John Street and Anne Street at around 11:20 a.m. on Monday, August 3rd. The driver allegedly avoided a traffic stop and continued driving.
Officers later spotted the same vehicle travelling at highway speeds on Queensway and again attempted to stop it. Police did not pursue on either occasion due to traffic and pedestrian conditions.
The vehicle later crashed into a light post. Police say the driver fled on foot but was arrested following a brief pursuit. No injuries were reported.
The man is facing:
- Dangerous operation (x2)
- Flight from a peace officer (x2)
- Failure to remain
- Driving while under suspension
- Failure to stop at a red light
