On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Barrie Police responded to a report just after 9:30 p.m. of an assault in the area of Puget Street near Shanty Bay Road in the city’s east end.
Officers arrived to find a 25-year-old Barrie man suffering from a stab wound to his leg. He reported that he had been assaulted and provided officers with a description of the suspect. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Several officers, including members of the K9 and Forensic Identification units, were called to assist with the investigation. Roughly two hours later, police located an individual matching the suspect description and took him into custody.
Through the investigation, officers determined that no assault had occurred and the Barrie man was responsible for his own injuries. The individual who had been taken into custody was released unconditionally.
As a result of the investigation, the 25-year-old man from Barrie is charged with public mischief under the Criminal Code.
