New Tecumseth is seeking up to $625,301 in provincial funding to replace some of the traffic-safety measures lost with the removal of automated speed-enforcement cameras, with most of the proposed work focused on school and community safety zones across Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham.
Town staff are recommending council direct them to apply to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation for the second phase of the Road Safety Initiatives Fund. The town must submit its application by Dec. 1, 2026, and provincial approval is required before any of the money can be spent.
The town previously received $156,892 in interim funding after Ontario repealed the legislation allowing municipalities to operate automated speed-enforcement cameras.
