Two men are facing multiple charges following an LCBO theft investigation in Innisfil that also involved a stolen vehicle and a collision with a police cruiser.
South Simcoe Police were contacted by staff at an Innisfil LCBO on Wednesday, August 20th after two men matching the description of suspects and a vehicle involved in an earlier theft at a Barrie LCBO were spotted.
Police say one man entered the store, placed eight bottles of alcohol in a basket and left without paying. He abandoned the basket and attempted to flee on foot after seeing officers outside, but was arrested.
The second man remained in a Chevrolet Camaro. Police determined the vehicle had been reported stolen by Peel Regional Police and was displaying a stolen Ontario licence plate. Officers also located eight bottles of alcohol inside the vehicle that had previously been reported stolen from the Barrie LCBO.
Police say the driver attempted to flee by rapidly reversing and accelerating into a marked police vehicle parked behind the Camaro. No injuries were reported, and the driver was arrested.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old unnamed man was charged with:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Motor Vehicle)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Ontario Licence Plate)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Liquor)
The second male suspect, also unnamed, was charged with:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Motor Vehicle)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Ontario Licence Plate)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (Liquor)
Both accused were transported to the South Division and held for bail.
