A Scarborough man is facing impaired driving charges after Barrie Police stopped a heavily damaged vehicle that was shedding parts onto Yonge Street last weekend.
Officers responded shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29th to a report of the vehicle being driven near Yonge Street and Big Bay Point Road.
Police say the vehicle was travelling along Yonge with parts falling onto the roadway. It was also being operated with a bare rim after sustaining a flat tire.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and, while speaking with the driver, formed grounds to initiate an impaired driving investigation.
The driver was taken to Barrie Police Headquarters, where testing by a qualified breath technician confirmed his blood alcohol concentration was nearly three times the legal limit.
An unnamed 54-year-old man from Scarborough was subsequently charged with:
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired (80 plus)
The driver also received an immediate 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment under the Highway Traffic Act.
