The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury has started its annual watermain flushing program, which may cause temporary discolouration of tap water for some residents.
The Town’s Water Division carries out watermain flushing every spring and fall by running water through every hydrant to help maintain a clean and fresh municipal water supply.
This year’s work continues through the end of October, Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
The flushing process may cause non-harmful sediment to enter the water system, resulting in yellowish tap water. Residents who experience discoloured water are advised to run their taps for about 10 minutes until the water runs clear.
If the water does not clear, residents can contact BWG’s Water Division at 905-775-5366 ext. 2300 or waterservices@townofbwg.com.
Residents who choose to run their taps to clear discoloured water will not receive credits on their residential water or wastewater utility bills, as the flushing program is considered ongoing maintenance. The Town says running an average faucet for 10 minutes is expected to cost about 25 cents.
For after-hours water emergencies, including watermain breaks, residents can contact the South Simcoe Police Service’s non-emergency line at 905-775-3311, and Town on-call staff will be dispatched.
