A Bradford community run is set to honour three South Simcoe Police Service officers who lost their lives in the line of duty while supporting a national memorial event.
The local kick-off for the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run takes place Wednesday, September 23rd at 5:00 p.m. at South Simcoe Police’s South Division at 81 Melbourne Drive in Bradford.
The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run was established by the Peel Regional Police running team, The Pacers, to raise awareness of the annual Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Service held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Participants run 460 kilometres from Toronto to Ottawa, arriving in time for the memorial service on Sunday, September 27th.
The Bradford event provides an opportunity for South Simcoe Police members, along with family and friends, to honour Police Constable Alan Kuzmich, Police Constable Devon Northrup and Police Constable Morgan Russell through a community run or walk.
Participants will also observe moments of silence at Constable Devon Northrup Memorial Park and Alan Kuzmich Memorial Park, which are named in memory of the fallen South Simcoe Police officers.
The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Run was deeply cherished by Constable Devon Northrup. As a former South Simcoe Police team captain, the event held a special significance for him. Members of the original running team have now stepped in to help ensure Northrup’s legacy continues.
