A new pedestrian crossover is coming to Alliston at the intersection of Albert Street East and Centre Street South.
The project is being funded by Baxter Corporation through a development agreement with the Town. The new crossing is intended to provide a safer way for Baxter employees to access the parking lot across the street, while also improving pedestrian access for residents and visitors.
Construction will include new concrete sidewalks, a marked pedestrian crossover, pedestrian signals, push buttons and flashing beacons. The project will also feature new signage, upgraded street lighting and other related infrastructure improvements.
Traffic will continue to flow through the area during construction, although temporary lane reductions may be required. If sidewalks need to be closed, clearly marked pedestrian detours will be provided.
Construction is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 1st. It’s expected to be completed by November 6th, weather permitting.
Residents, businesses and motorists are being asked to use caution and expect possible delays while the pedestrian safety improvements are completed.
