A 46-year-old Barrie woman is facing impaired driving charges after police say an SUV struck a parked vehicle in the Letitia Heights area and left the scene.
On Sunday, September 20th, at around 1:00 p.m., Barrie Police officers located the SUV travelling near Austen Lane and Atwood Court and initiated a traffic stop. As the vehicle stopped along the side of the road, police say it mounted the curb.
While speaking with the driver, officers noted an odour of alcohol coming from her breath. She was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and taken to Barrie Police Headquarters, where further testing determined she was nearly three times over the legal limit, according to police.
The woman is facing charges of:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired (80 plus)
- Fail to remain under the Highway Traffic Act
Barrie Police are encouraging members of the public to report suspected impaired drivers, noting that a call could help prevent an impaired driver from hurting themselves or someone else.
