A Brampton man is facing a careless driving charge after police say the raised dump box of a commercial dump truck struck overhead power lines in Barrie.
On Wednesday, September 23rd, at around 4 p.m., Barrie Police responded to Lockhart Road after the dump truck left a construction site and struck the overhead lines while its box was in the raised position.
The collision brought live hydro lines down, creating a safety hazard and causing a power outage in the immediate area.
The 37-year-old driver was charged with careless driving.
Police are reminding commercial vehicle operators to ensure their vehicles and equipment are properly secured before travelling, particularly when operating near overhead infrastructure.
Anyone who encounters downed power lines is advised to stay well away, avoid touching the lines or anything in contact with them, and call 911.
