Three Seniors Active Living Centre programs in Simcoe-Grey are sharing more than $172,000 in annual provincial funding to support programs and services for older adults.
Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson announced the $172,920 investment for centres in Beeton, Collingwood, and Wasaga Beach. The funding is part of Ontario’s record investment of nearly $23 million this year supporting 416 Seniors Active Living Centre programs across the province, including 97 new programs.
“Seniors Active Living Centres are an important part of our communities, creating welcoming spaces where older adults can build friendships, take part in activities and remain connected to the community around them,” said MPP Saunderson. “This investment of more than $172,000 will support the great work happening in Beeton, Collingwood and Wasaga Beach. Congratulations and thank you to the dedicated staff and volunteers whose time, energy and commitment make these programs possible and have such a positive impact on seniors across Simcoe-Grey.”
The Simcoe-Grey programs receiving funding are the New Tecumseth Seniors Active Living Centre in Beeton, operated by CHATS – Community & Home Assistance to Seniors; the Collingwood Leisure Time Club Seniors Active Living Centre, operated by the Leisure Time Club; and the Seniors Active Living Centre Program in Wasaga Beach, operated by the Town of Wasaga Beach.
The province is also marking the 60th anniversary of the first six Elderly Persons’ Centres, established under the Elderly Persons’ Centres Act, 1966. The centres are now known as Seniors Active Living Centre programs.
Ontario says there are currently 416 Seniors Active Living Centres across the province. Funding for each centre has increased to up to $55,000 for operations and maintenance, compared with $50,000 last year and $42,700 the year before.
