The Town of New Tecumseth is advancing several initiatives aimed at connecting residents with in-demand careers while supporting workforce development and long-term economic growth.
A key focus is the proposed Skilled Trades & Technology Training Centre, which would expand access to local training, help address skilled labour shortages and strengthen workforce pipelines for employers across the region.
Town staff recently met with post-secondary institutions that responded to the Town’s Expression of Information process to discuss potential partnerships, programming models and future training needs. The discussions will help support an upcoming feasibility study with the County of Simcoe and inform the next phase of the proposed project.
The Town is also continuing to promote skilled trades through hands-on learning opportunities. On September 17th, New Tecumseth hosted its second Tools in the Trades Bootcamp of the year in partnership with Support Ontario Youth and Honda of Canada Manufacturing.
The event gave participants practical experience in electrical and millwright trades, opportunities to connect directly with employers and information about local career pathways. More than 100 participants attended the Town’s two bootcamp events held in 2026.
The Bootcamp was supported by industry, education and workforce partners including F&P Manufacturing, Howa Canada, Simcoe Parts Service, Skilled Trades Ontario, Simcoe Muskoka Skillforce, Milwaukee, Georgian College and the County of Simcoe.
Looking ahead, the Town is developing a Skilled Trades & Technology Hackathon that will bring together students, educators and industry partners to tackle real-world manufacturing and technology challenges through innovation, collaboration and problem-solving.
“New Tecumseth is taking action to prepare for the future,” says Mayor Richard Norcross. “The proposed Skilled Trades & Technology Training Centre represents a significant opportunity to expand local training opportunities, support employers, and strengthen our workforce for years to come. Combined with initiatives such as our Tools in the Trades Bootcamp and upcoming Hackathon, we are creating pathways to success for residents while helping ensure our community remains competitive, innovative, and ready for continued growth.”
The Town says the initiatives are part of its broader commitment to workforce development, innovation and economic growth, with a focus on providing residents with skills, training and opportunities for future careers.
