Two Barrie men are facing charges after police say a vehicle was driven dangerously through an active construction zone.
Officers were on general patrol shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25th, when they observed a vehicle travelling along the shoulder of Dunlop Street West to pass slow-moving traffic.
They initiated a traffic stop nearby on Hart Drive. As the vehicle stopped, police say the driver moved into the backseat while the passenger moved into the driver’s seat.
Police determined the man who had originally been driving was operating the vehicle with a suspended licence.
A 23-year-old Barrie man is charged with:
- dangerous operation
- obstructing police
- driving while under suspension
The 22-year-old passenger is charged with:
- obstructing police
Barrie Police are reminding drivers to be patient when travelling through construction zones, noting that attempting to save a few minutes can put road workers, pedestrians and other motorists at risk.
